Chicago’s Knight Transportation has announced a new $1.8 billion facility, which will be the largest privately funded transportation facility in the U.S. It’s slated to open in 2019 and will be a major expansion of the company’s transportation network, which is already home to many of the world’s busiest highways.
The facility will include the first new Knight Transportation vehicle to be built in decades and the first dedicated transit platform in the country.
The construction of the new Knight Transport facility, expected to open later this year, will be Knight Transportation’s biggest investment to date.
The new facility is located at the northern edge of the city, on the border of two major transportation hubs in the South Side and Downtown.
“Knight Transportation’s future is now in Chicago, where we are bringing an innovative new approach to transportation that provides access to the city’s most vital transportation systems,” said Robert A. Hickey, Knight Transportation president and CEO.
“We are taking a leading role in bringing a high-quality transportation system to Chicago and we are proud to have our home city as our first hub.”
The new construction, which includes the first fully operational Knight Transportation passenger train in more than 30 years, will bring the company to a total of more than 500,000 vehicles that can be used by nearly 100,000 people daily.
It also includes an expansion of its bus service, with new buses, vans and vans for emergency use.
“Our focus on bringing high-speed rail to Chicago is a priority for us and a major milestone for Knight Transportation,” said Hickey.
It will make Chicago a world-class city for our people and our guests. “
This new facility, designed to connect the city with its largest hubs, will enable us to create the highest quality transportation system for our customers.
“A critical part of Knight Transportation is ensuring that our customers have a seamless and secure experience while they travel between the cities, whether on buses or trains. “
We look forward to working with the city and the Chicago Transit Authority to build on the success of the first Knight Transportation station and expand this facility into the future.” “

Construction will begin in 2019.
The company’s first passenger train, the Chicago-to-Chicago Express, will run every 15 minutes on the city-owned North Shore Line.
The city of Chicago is also building a second passenger train that will run on the North Side Line from Chicago to the airport.
The Chicago-To-L.A. Express will run at a frequency of two times per hour on the L.A.-to-L, L.I.-to, L-to and L-West lines, but will run twice every five minutes on both the North and South Shore Lines.
The first passenger line, which connects the Chicago suburbs to the Southside, is expected to be operational by the end of 2020.
The second line, between Chicago and Los Angeles, is slated to start running in 2021.
The two lines are scheduled to be joined by the L-South Express, which would connect Chicago to Los Angeles in 2019, and the L.-South Express and L.O.B. Lines, which are expected to start operating in 2024.
The third and fourth passenger trains, which connect Chicago and the suburbs to Los and Orange counties, are expected in 2021 and 2022.
