Why a woman is taking her own life in the car on the way to the airport

LOS ANGELES — A woman in her 60s took her own own life Sunday in her mother’s Mercedes SUV, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

The SUV was parked in the middle of the street at the intersection of Interstate 15 and California Avenue when a white SUV pulled up and started backing up, according a Sheriff’s statement.

The driver tried to turn around, but couldn’t, and the SUV continued to back up, the statement said.

As the SUV backed up, deputies attempted to stop the vehicle, and at some point the driver drove onto the shoulder of the roadway and jumped out of the SUV, the sheriff’s statement said, adding that the driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

Deputies were called at 1:52 a.m. to the intersection.

Investigators said there were no signs of trauma to the SUV.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call the Los Angeles Police Department’s Homicide Unit at (323) 622-3333.
